Caller can't hear ringing

I noticed this problem when my grandson was using this phone and I tried calling him, now that I'm using the phone (he got a new one) I'm having the same issue. It doesn't happen all of the time but occasionally when someone calls me I can hear the phone ringing but they can't and they assume it didn't make a connection and hang up. When I answer, obviously no one is there. When my grandson was using it I'd just stay on the line and even though I heard no ringing he would answer. What would be causing this?

Welcome to Android Central! That's an odd problem. Have you asked you wireless carrier about it? It sounds like a network problem rather than a hardware problem.

T-mobile. I've noticed it when I was calling it from a Tracfone, same with my husband but my grandson said he's had other people comment on it when he was using it too.

It sounds like something at the carrier end, but barring any other suggestions I'd recommend a Factory Reset, after which do not reinstall your current apps - you can update any that came on the phone, but don't touch anything else until you confirm that the problem is either gone or still present.

Grasping at straws here because this is such an unusual issue.
I suppose you could ask T-Mobile for a replacement SIM card just in case.

I think you're running afoul of a T-Mobile specific feature called "CallerTunes" which allows you to specify a custom ringback tune that the caller will hear instead of rings. It's settable BY CALLER so somehow it's been set to silent for some numbers--or more likely the original tune was deleted or moved. You should be seeing a $ fee on your bill for the feature. Or perhaps the feature was dropped without clearing the custom settings. Do a search for "tmobile callertunes" for more info.
