I just happened to check Running services in Developer options today. It seems that the Camera app is always running in the background. Since a phone restart earlier in the morning, my camera had been running for 2 hours and thirty-seven minutes. I did another restart and since, the camera app has been running for two hours and forty-nine minutes. I've never checked on this before to know if this is normal. I am in the Beta group for Android 12L, but have no way of knowing whether it's a beta issue or normal behavior. Just curious.

Mine runs in the background also not on any beta
Maybe because location permission on

I just checked, and Location is enabled on my 6 Pro also. So, that explains it. Probably the default setting. Thank you, mustang7757!

Just to add to this discussion, please see the photo below. It seems that there's a service that is running that allows the camera to start immediately or almost immediately. I suspect that's why it is running in the background. However, I doubt that it's using much battery.Screenshot_20220221-192852.jpg

I agree that battery consumption is probably minor. Just surprised that the camera app constantly runs in the background. Maybe it always has. Looking in Running services, you can see the seconds click away. I see that the MB is at 211. I'm going to see if that is different by morning.
