Camera Battle: Galaxy S6 v. HTC M9 v. iPhone 6

Camera test between the hottest phones of this year...which one comes on top? You be the judge

GS6 overall hands down. The test was very thorough. Even with software tweaks in the production units, the GS6 still wins due to the aperture aspect. M9 still finishes third.

The M9 has a horrible camera compared to the other two. GS6 was definitely first in my opinion, the iPhone 6 was close

Yup for sure

I was reading the comments and watching the video. I had to stop when someone echoed what I've said a few times. HTC couldn't get the camera right in the M7 or M8. HTC said software would fix the problems and we know how that worked out. I feel bad for HTC right now. We all wanted to love their phone.

Ironically, someone said they should use the selfie camera on the M9 for low light photos to make it fair..lol.

I think HTC needs a dual camera. One that does 16 megapixels and can do ultrapixels. Camera is smart enough to switch between the two or give you the option. Don't know if that's even feasible.

I am going to wait for the reviews and check out the S6 in the Sprint store. I'm insane when it comes to fingerprints on my Moto 360 and I have a screen protector on it. Probably be the same way with the S6. Let's hope they can do away with clunky batteries by having an efficient processor. If the S6 has better battery life than the M9, HTC and Apple might be in trouble.

Its ironic that the reason they removed the dual camera was because people complained about it I believe. I was really hoping the M9 camera was going to be better than the previous (even though I was going to get the S6 either way)

I wanna wait for the reviews of the S6 too...the battery life is what I am most concerned about

Yeah, I didn't care for the M8s dual camera at all. Never used that feature. I don't understand why they don't focus on the basics? Just shooting a great picture in any condition. I didn't care about the camera on my M7 or M8 until I started taking pictures of things. That's when I got slapped in the face and I'm an HTC fan.

Maybe that render set me up for failure. Even if I hadn't seen the render, I would have still been disappointed.

I need to try the split screen technology on Samsung too. I think that's a plus to have on a phone.

While generally this showed the success of the S6 it was still (IMO) a bit behind the iphone in white balance (the whites just weren't as white as those of the iphone) and color saturation. Say what you will, but the iphone continues to have a killer camera that still is hard to beat. I think in certain areas the S6 bests it. Specifically it's focus tracking is superb and it's OIS is a huge plus. Finally I don't think there is a phone on the market that will be able to rival its low light performance. As much as I despise the Apple universe I have to be honest and say that I continue to be impressed by what they squeeze out of an 8MP camera. Samsung has done a magnificent job closing the gap and even besting the iphone in certain respects but the iphone camera is a beast!

The M9 is an utter failure in pretty much every respect. Hard to believe as their engineers knew that this was the single biggest criticism of the M7 and M8. You'd have though there would have been no way they'd let a stinker like this hit the street. And please spare me the old "it's a pre-production unit," it'll be fixed with a software update" crap. That has never happened and it never will. What you see is what you're going to get. Their entire engineering staff really needs to be fired. This is an epic fail.

The white balance looks better on GS6 being helped by the IR sensor. Further software tweaks for the production unit should make GS6 the hands down favorite over the i6. It remains to be seen with the i6s but I am betting on incrementally better than the i6.

I too think that the S6 is better than the iPhone 6. The m9 just can't compete.
I don't think that any camera on a phone this year will be better.
The G3 was good, but with an F2.4 lens it just isn't as good in low light. I am going to wait for the G4 but if their camera doesn't get improved with a faster lens then I'm going to get the S6. I just didn't see anything going to be better this year, not even the note 5.

I believe note 5 will be little better in some kinda area then s6 camera

The white balance is a little off on the GS6, but the camera is still a beast! The days of comparable camera has arrived for Android phones!

S6 gets my vote mainly because I think it represents a truer natural color than the iPhone 6, which did a much better job than I expected. M9 is OK but cannot compare to the other 2.

Used to be that a Smartphone just so happened to have a camera on it. Now, the camera is the main feature and it just so happens that you can text, email, browse the web, pay for things, control your TV, print documents, edit spreadsheets, etc.

I am capturing my life moments on my smartphone, and it is one of the most precious things to me that I am able to do this. Not just pics but vids as well. I love it. I love showing people my kids as they grow up.... my house projects I'm working on, a random shot of a praying mantis on a tree. As life goes by, I am getting the pics, and telling the story. This is without question for me the #1 thing my smartphone is for.

I will wait for real world reviews and our own AC "pics taken with your S6" threads of course. But if this S6 camera is all its hyped up to be, it will be the device that I use to capture my life. All the other feature are bonuses.

The guy that did the YouTube video used MWC pre-release versions in the GS6 and M9 which are sure to get fine tuned prior to release with the M9 only getting software tweaks with a reheated version of the M8 camera. GS6 camera hardware already better than both.

What is a M9 and a M8?

I thought the only test the Galaxy S6 won was the image stabilisaton one. Pretty much everything else I would have edged to the iPhone 6.

M9 looked the worst in every test, but it's supposedly not close to final software.
