So I have a rooted incredible, nothing else done to it beside just a simple root and up until about a week ago my camera was acting completely fine as i used it to take pictures and video.

It looks like I have no problems taking pictures as I just snapped about 8 in a row while writing this but then i switched to video mode.

Now when you go to take a video, normally the little square reticle for focus pops up but it does not anymore, and if I click the trackpad to start recording, all the text on the screen goes away and nothing happens except for the picture of what the camera sees is really laggy. I can't hit the trackball again to stop the video and have to hit the home key.

After this the phone is pretty close to completely frozen up, and the only thing I have found to make the phone usable again is to do a battery pull and not touch the camera apps...

What do you think could cause this? I really want to be able to take video again!

Try clearing the cache out of the camera app under settings, Applicarions, All - Camera and or HTC Camera. Then reboot.

Nope, that didn't fix it. I also noticed that it doesn't make the focusing sound when you tap the screen in camera mode, and that I can't zoom in camcorder mode.

I just dont understand how I can take pictures no problem but my video wont work...

Also I noticed that when I open the camera then back out and close it through the application manager something is still definitely running but I'm not sure what. So I looked at the batter info to see what was taking up the battery life and a lot of it is from something called Mediaserver. I have no idea what this is.

As much as I hate to suggest it - you might be in full wipe territory.

Something is gumming up the works, a reset should set it straight.

Ah, that sucks... What would I need to do to do that? Do I have to restore any deleted verizon apps that I got rid of and will this unroot me?

Thanks for your responses

No you won't lose root or have to restore your deleted apps.

BUT – Be sure you backup any data stored internally to the phone to your SD card. Pics, Videos, contacts should be backed up to your SD card. You might want to get Titanium Backup from the market to backup bookmarks and apps that hold "state" like games.
Once that is done, boot into recovery and select Clear data/factory reset, then clear cache and then under advanced, clear dalvik cache.

Then reboot. You will have to re login to gmail and set up your accounts again. Then you can re download your apps from the market. It will remember any paid apps but you can use the list in titanium to remind you of what else you had. I often use the opportunity to say... Why did I ever download that app, and cull it from my life! ;)

Once your apps are back you can restore the data using titanium. Do not restore system data since this is likely where things got buggered in the first place.

Good Luck.

Memory

Where are you saving videos, internal or SD? Have you checked to make sure you have enough space for videos? Since vids take so much more space it would kinda make sense that you could still shoot pics, but have trouble with vids.

All my camera stuff is being saved to internal memory since I have like 6 gigs free instead of my SD card.

Haven't got around to resorting it yet tho, ill write back after I do

just a quick question, I have a battery app that is no longer available on the market. if i do a complete wipe how can I reload this app back onto my phone?

Also do i leave the memory card in when I'm doing a reset or take it out?

Thanks!

You can leave your SD card in during a wipe - it will not touch the SD card data. To save your battery app you would need something like Titanium Backup.

Hope this helps

well, the restore was a no-go...camcorder still is broken. Looks like I'm out of options then? Besides unrooting and going to verizon to get a new one?

How do I go about unrooting, I used the unrevoked method. Is there a guide somewhere to give you step by step on how to do it?

This sucks...

Well, I unrooted and the camcorder works fine now... -_-

Time to re root!

Thanks for all your help peoples, I like to be able to come to a forum and actually get help from people who know what they're doing!

EDIT: WOW...camcorder is broken again and I didn't even get a chance to reroot it... Time to see if I can get a free Thunderbolt out of the mess haha
