Camera defaulting to Auto Flash when opened. Anyone else?

Yet another issue I have discovered after the JB update. I had no trouble with this phone for the 9 months I had it with ICS.

I have noticed now whenever I take a picture the flash activates even though the last time I used the camera I turned the flash off. I have been turning the flash off quite a bit but had not noticed it was doing it on its own till I tried to take a picture through a window last night and it flashed yet again and I knew I had just turned the flash off about 20 minutes before.

Tried several times just opening the camera app, selecting ?Flash Off?, going back to home screen and opening the camera again to find Auto Flash back on again.

Made a quick video showing the issue

Called Verizon last night. They of course suggested a master reset, apparently that?s all that particular rep knew to do. I was then transferred to someone else that suggested a soft reset (power and both volume buttons), when that did not work they had me force stop the camera and clear the data, that also did not correct the issue. Then we tried starting in Safe Mode (both volume keys when powering up), still did it. They offered to replace my phone but only if I did a master reset first, not willing to waste all that time on something that might not even work.

I did find a forum post on here from someone with an S3 that had the same issue and master reset did not correct it for them.

Has anyone else with a Motorola Device experienced this after the update? The rep I spoke to claimed no one else had called them about this issue yet. If you have this problem as well please report it!

Well now you now so you can't take an extra second to turn it off. Not a big deal.

I figured I'd see if it resets after a reboot. I hadn't noticed it doing that but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Turns out all settings are set to defaults. The camera app must stop within the last time you turned flash off and resets when you open again.

Your findings are confirmed!

No suggestions at the moment. I will play with it though.

This was reported on the Motorola board immediately following the JB update. It's a little annoying but apparently not enough to consider a bug prior to release.

I have a Maxx HD running Jelly Bean and mine does not default to auto flash, if I turn flash off, exit the camera app, then re-enter, flash stays off.

Doesn't happen with my camera, stock app or otherwise. I had the December leak, and don't think it happened then either.

It will stay on whatever you leave it on as long as you don't hold the home button and swype the camera away.

I noticed this with the last software update. Its very annoying. I hate flash pictures and keep turning it off, it keeps turning itself on. Will this be fixed in the next update?

It happens on my Maxx with 4.1.2, stock. Seems fairly minor to remember to change the flash to off whenever you open the camera. If it bothers you enough, you could install Camera Zoom FX, which I can confirm will remember your flash choice.

Try this...select flash on...close and open camera several times u will see it stays on. Now select flash off...repeat on/off..and it will stay off, even powered down and it never went back to auto....Good luck.//AC. Loops next day back to Auto....crap..
