OK so I got my galaxy s9 plus a month ago and everything works great, but when I try to use flash in Instagram or whatsapp (maybe other apps too idk) the flash does appear but when the picture is shown you see a picture taken without flash. What the hell

Why my flashlight doesn't work inapp

Hey, when I try to take photo with my galaxy s9 plus inapp like whatsapp and instagram, my flashlight doesn't work. How can I fix that ?

Re: Why my flashlight doesn't work inapp

Welcome to Android Central! Do you mean that you're unable to turn the camera flash option on when taking the picture? If you're using the camera, you typically can't use the flashlight function at the same time, because the camera LED flash is part of the camera module. If the Camera app is active, then the LED flash is being controlled by the Camera, not the flashlight function.

I merged your duplicate threads. The above post was in response to the question you posted while not logged in (at least, I'm pretty sure it was from you as well, given the similarity of the question). I saw your other question (the main one of this merged thread) afterwards -- when you say the flash appears when using Instagram or Whatsapp, do you mean that the flash actually goes off, or that you only see the flash icon on the screen, but the flash doesn't fire?

When I'm using whatsapp and instagram to take pictures with flash, the flash is appearing and when he turned off the photo is taken without flash

Hi -- were you the one who posted that second question, or are you joining the discussion because you have the same issue?

I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you're saying. Is it the flash icon that's appearing, but the actual LED flash isn't firing when you take the photo? If so, are you sure the camera is set to force flash on, or is it on Automatic Flash?

Ok I'll explain better.
The LED flash is appears.
The icon too.
What I mean, when I press to take the photo, there is a LED flash but the photo is taken without it.
It's like the phone filming late.
It happens only in 3rd apps. When I do this in the Camera App the photo come out with flash LED

yes I have same issue with Instagram...on my other PHONES flash workings fine ...but only s9 or s9+ have this issue....I guess Samsung should fix it

It sounds like it could be an issue with those apps -- maybe they're utilizing the camera API incorrectly. Send feedback to the Whatsapp and Instagram developers about this problem.

And sorry about merging these threads -- it sure seemed like they were from the same person, but clearly they aren't!:)

Hello, just to reiterate on this question, because I have the same problem on my S9 (at least I think so, the description wasn't quite clear)

So what happens exactly on my phone is, when I take a photo through whatsapp or a similar app (with flash turned ON), the flashlight actually fires, but the image sensor seems to start the exposure too late (so after the flash) - resulting in a dark picture without flash.

Does anyone have a solution for this yet? I mean the lowlight capabilities of the camera are quite impressive, but this is still annoying :P
