Camera focus

When I first start my camera app on the Note, it does not autofocus. Is it lack of light or is it some setting I have wrong? I am set to all default. I don't really know what gets it to focus but it is usually moving the camera to an object far away from what I am trying to shoot. Any suggestions? I am on Note Edge Lollipop 5.0.1.

Same issue here on my Note 4. Haven't found a fix, but like you said, pointing at something far away makes it work again
