Could someone help. I thought the GS3 camera was supposed to be the best, along with the One X

Well I see the quick shutter when I use the burst shot, which I don't use much

However, in a single shot. I don't see it

My Galaxy Nexus was better

It had a quick shutter. Now when I toto take a pic of a friend for example who doesn't want pics taken, if he has time to get the finger up or hand, that's the picture I get. On the GN I would get the quick pic I want

Also I shake a little and the Nexus used to correct the pic instantaneously. The GS3 does not

Is this a matter of settings, or a problem, or other than the 5 vs 8 mp is the GS3 not as good of a camera as the GN, except features also

Thank You

I haven't used a GN for pictures neither read reviews, but like you said S3 and One X cameras are one of the best cameras for smartphones. You're correct about features, the S3 has a lot of features, but pictures are nice also. But the quality of the picture is related to how carefully you plan or take the pictures.

I would check to see if Anti-shake option is checked in the camera settings.

With my personal experience the S3's autofocus isn't that fast or accurate. Usually a manual focus helps for my still pictures. The only thing I can suggest for taking pictures of a friend who is resistant is to use the burst shot. I believe the S3 shows you the picture that is the most focus when you finish your burst shot also.

Thank you very much.

Understood most of what you said. Novice here LOL

I will check my settings for auto-shake....that would be for me questioning why it doesn't fix the picture when I take it right

the last part, auto-focus swiftness, don't think that I mentioned that, but it is slower.
But the actual taking of the picture is SLOOOWWW once I hit the camera button. It takes anywhere from .5-1 second

Any ideas on that Id be grateful. Or if you have someone with a GN to compare

Again thx for your time

Hey, auto shake was off Putting it on makes it snap much faster
Thanks
I can't tell if it fixes it yet, sure it will be better

Now the pics are much bigger, guess that is due to the 8 mp

I don't know if it is my puter or the size of the pics. I think I read it was the latter
Regardless, I need to open the pics in PAINT if I put them on the puter, then resize them to 50%

What is the best setting to change to reduce them on the phone without sacrificing quality
Change the mp from 8 to 6 ...
Or would you lose less qualilty but make it smaller if I went from super fine to fine??

Again, thanks!!

If you want to make pictures smaller lower the megapixels from 8 to whatever size you want.

Changing the megapixel will change the overall size of the photo and the shape.
Changing the image quality from super fine to fine will keep the photo the same size but make it less clear and maybe even blurry.

8MP Photo = 3264 x 2448 = 45.333 in x 34 in
6MP Photo = 3264 x 1836 = 45.333 in x 25.5 in
3.2MP Photo = 2048 x 1536 = 28.444 in x 21.333 in
0.3MP Photo = 640 x 480 = 8.889 in x 6.667 in

Here is a photo that shows the difference between the different megapixel pictures in size and shape.

As you can see 8MP, 3.2MP, and 0.3MP have the same shape. It is most likely a 4:3 ratio (im not sure). 6MP is a wider photo (most likely 16:9 or 16:10 ratio)

As you lower the megapixels of the photos taken by the phone the size of the photo gets smaller. Quality doesn't necessarily get lower as you use lower megapixels. The higher the megapixel the longer it takes for the picture to become pixelated/blurry as you zoom in. Pictures with low resolution/megapixels will get pixelated/blurry by zooming in once or twice.

Thank you. So the size of the pic on the camera, outer or when printed out. What were those dimensions in inches?

Again thanks to all for helping someone that is a novice in some of these areas

A 8 megapixel photo zoomed in at 100% on a computer is 45.333 in x 34 in, but a 0.3 megapixel photo zoomed at 100% is only 8.889 in x 6.667 in.

If you're going to print normal sized photo you can print the 0.3 megapixel photo.
But if you were going to print a photo that was the size of a A4 paper then the 8MP or higher photo should be used.

Photos taken from cameras are 72 dpi (dots per inch) It is recommended that the dpi be raised to 200-300 when printing. That will also increase the picture resolution.

A 0.3MP photo is 640 x 480 pixel/resolution. If you increase that photo to 300 dpi it becomes 2667 x 2000.

Unless you print through a professional printer and computer the pictures you print can be printed in any size of your choice.

Nm. I am totally confused. These inches etc aren't even on phone. Need to solve phone problem before digging into more. But thanks

It's really pretty simple. The numbers of inches only mean something in relation to the resolution of the output medium. A computer screen has x by y pixels. That's all it can display, usually only slightly more than one megapixel.

Most people these days only view or share their images on a computer screen and all the extra pixels go to waste. If your final output its a print you figure on 300 pixels per inch. Thus an 8 by 10 needs 8x300x10x300 to print without software rezing it up artificially.

The proportion of your final output its also a consideration. In settings those different settings yield different. aspect ratios as well. If you desire an 8 by 10 print which is a 4 x 5 ratio and you capture at 4 x 6 some of your image will be cropped. You have to keep that in mind when shooting and shoot a bit looser so you can crop.

I purchased the note3 partly because I heard the camera was fabulous (previously did not use my phone as a camera). However, I didn't realize all my photos were going to be 72dpi. The quality of details is very fuzzy, almost like a painting of my shot instead of a photograph. I've played with the different settings, but can't seem to get a quality that is anywhere close to print quality, or crisp enough to do decent editing in photoshop. Am I stuck with 72 dpi? Any other things I should try? Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the forums!

Of course the first problem is that you're asking Note 3 questions in the Galaxy S3 forum - I don't know how similar these devices or their firmware are. Have you checked the Resolution setting to be sure it's at maximum?

Have you checked Image quality to be sure it's at superfine?
