The time it takes for this thing to take a picture is awful. What gives? I really want to like this phone but I feel like my old G5 is faster than this thing.

Is it just me? I really like the pictures it takes though.

Did you try clearing the cache in the camera app?

it helped for a bit but now it's back to awful. I am ditching the G6 and going to an essential ph1. so far it's like night and day how much faster this phone is at everything.

maybe I got a bad G6 I dunno. I even did a hard reset and it was still laggy.

Sorry to hear you're having camera issues. My G6 has been working great, and I've had no camera issues all.

So glad you're enjoying your Essential Phone! What colour did you get? It's true that there are always some "bad apples" in phone lines/batches... It is too bad that your G6 didn't run well!

Yah, the camera is really slow to load up. Too bad cause i love the wide angle camera. Clearing the cache helps for a little bit. It won't fix it completely. Maybe it's the camera app itself that's slow. I haven't found a 3rd party camera app that support the wide angle mode though.

Same bad issues here.
The shutter speed is too low! It takes over 1 second (from the moment I press the circle botton to when it acually take the picture), which is outrageous. I almost entirely take pictures of my toddlers... shutter speed is critical. So I "waste" lots of shots because of these shutter delays (in 1 second the children have easily moved away).

I've had an LG G4 and it was NOT that slow!

I use auto mode (I've tried manual too, without any changes in shutter's speed), highest resolution (4:3). I've also figure out it's not an SD card issue, as I tried to save in the internal memory and the shutter was slow as "usual". Oreo didn't bring any improvement as well.

I've read here and there and:
- claread the camera APP's cache - no effect
- turned off HDR - gained a little improvement
The shutter speed is still very low (>1 second), especially in the first picture "of a kind" (i.e. if the focused area don't change, then the shutter speed is eventually fair. but that's quite obvius as autofocus isn't in charge).

I was going to change the camera APP, moving to Gcam, however I've read that it does NOT allow to save on external (SD) memory, which is a deal-breaker to me!

I hope you can help me somehow. Thanks in advance!
