Camera locks up the phone

This has happened at least twice now, I was taking a picture of my sons bed last night and the camera buttons all just quit working. There is no way to exit other than to power off the phone. You can't take a picture, can't change any options, the home screen doesn't work nor any of the 4 buttons at the bottom, it just won't exit the camera. This was after taking about 5 or 6 pictures. The camera is still displaying live, but no matter what you cannot exit the camera other than to power off the phone. Anyone else experience this issue now? It's a little irritating to have to reboot the phone just to get out of the camera. This is the stock camera app also just fyi.

I've noticed a temporary lag in some cases. The camera appears to be locked, but I suppose it's just processing the photo. In my case, after a few seconds, the camera is back to normal.

This has happened to me a couple times and is very annoying especially when u really need to take some pictures. I don't have a solution or know the cause though.

I don't have an Infuse, I don the Charge, but is it possible that you might have hit the lock screen button on the side of the phone and not noticed? I've done this before, and it locks the app and phone so no buttons work and it doesn't get out of that until you unlock the app by pressing the lock screen button again.

Hope I helped solve your problem :-)

Never noticed it did that but tested and it does keep camera app open but locks all buttons. Hopefully that is all it is. Thanks.

Nope, but I can still hit the lock screen and turn airplane mode on, data off, power off phone, but there is no way to get out of the camera, and all the buttons quit working including the home, back, etc (only thing I can do is select the options from the lock button, everything else quits working). It doesn't happen all the time, I have used the camera many times where it doesn't lock up, but sometimes it still locks up. I wish this phone had a restart option also, would make that a little easier to deal with then hitting power off, waiting for that, then powering it back on.

I have the infuse and I was seeing symptoms exactly as Rocket75 describes. It was driving me nuts but I just figured it out. It does in fact behave as rdearth53 describes. Go into the camera app and before doing anything quickly press the power/sleep button. You'll see a little padlock icon right next to the number of pics you have room for. At that point you can't do anything. Click the power/sleep button again (don't hold it) and the padlock icon will go away and you once again have control. I am so relieved to have found this. Not sure what the point is, but at least there's a solution.

I've had this as well. I managed to get out of it somehow, not sure if it was the same as duffman's method. But yeah, very annoying.

I just tried to see if I could duplicate duff's method but could not. I didn't see the padlock icon, it really didn't do anything when I pressed power/sleep in camera mode unless I held it down to bring up the power options. But it didn't lock up either this time.

Just as has been said. When you hit the power button in Camera mode, the pad lock comes on there and you cant do anything on the screen. But its still on like you can. Its basically locked. Im going to assume thats there incase your taking a video and you dont want to mess it up by hitting something on the screen. Not sure why though.

I've had the Samsung Infuse since the first day it was available. Love it thus far. Yesterday I experienced the issue reported with the Camera for the first time. There was no lock symbol, so it wasn't the scenario as described above. I can tell you that it happened 5-6 times in a matter of 15 minutes. I also had the camera in "sports" mode. That was the first time I had put the camera in that mode, so not sure if that had anything to do with the issue. As reported, the only thing I could do to resolve the issue was to power off. Annoying.

Took my Infuse on a motorcycle trip (used as my mounted GPS) and definitely also had issues with the camera locking.

The MAJORITY of the time it was me trying to turn off the phone but in reality "locked" the camera screen. But I still think there were times the camera locked the phone for a few long seconds...drove me nuts but I will have to study this a bit further.

Ah Ha! This has happened to me several times too. The other poster is correct. When you press the power button it locks the screen with a orange pic of a lock next to the pic's left counter. I agree, it probably locks the video recorder in place so it doesn't shut off before you finsh recording.

The reason it locks up is when you hold the camera in landscape you have to hold the device between your pointer fingers and thumbs on each side of the device to steady it while framing your subject.

Try it . . . check where your "left" index finger winds up as you press down a little so you don't let the Charge slip out of your fingers. . . Yep, you press right down on the power button which screen locks it where nothing works until you press the power button again.

It just locked up on me again tonight, so I Googled this phrase "Droid Charge camera locks" and it came up with this thread. Glad I read this thread too, because I was doing battery pulls with each lock up to get it working again!

* Check out the cartoon setting in camera mode when you press the arrow in the middle of the left side of the screen. Press the white square and then press the right side arrow and scroll to the next page. Then press cartoon.

Note: cartoon mode shuts the flash off, so if you want flash on your next pic, turn the flash on again after you take a cartoon pic. I like to leave mine on "flash on" mode most of the time rather than auto as it fills in better when the flash doesn't go off like when the room is well lit, but your subject still comes out dark . . Flash "on" fills in those dark faces.

But that cartoon mode is COOL!
