Camera off icon on Lenovo 8" display

A few days ago, my display started showing an icon in the upper left that my camera is off/blocked. I know it is blocked because I turned it off a long time ago. This partially blocks the time. How do I get rid of it? Is this from a software update?

Well, it's not really ideal, but I got it to go away by turning the camera on and then almost completely off just before it gets detected. There must be a better way.
