Camera pictures of documents

I take pictures of documents a lot so I usually place the paper on a table or couch etc and hold the phone directy above it tilting from portrait. About 90% of the time it turns it sideways yet the camera view orientation never changed when I took it. My samsung never did this and I'm doing it the same way. I was wondering if anyone might know why.?
I have to edit every one and go to crop and turn it right side up.

Try using photo scan. It in the Play store. Made by google for pixels.

You could try turning off auto-rotate. But I would also suggest using the Google Drive scan feature instead, which allows you to take a picture of a document and convert it automatically to a PDF. https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/9308884?hl=en

I agree with the suggestion to use Google Drive scan. It works flawlessly for me.
