Can Galaxy Watch receive messages when phone is not around?

Hi all,

I am trying to decide between Ticwatch Pro and Galaxy Watch, and my only concern is this: I am in the gym or swimming pool for like 2-3 hours a day and need to receive my notifications, and the locker is far away!

1. If the watch cannot connect to my phone, or the phone is off, can it directly get messages (e.g. Telegram, WhatsApp, Gmail) from the internet?

2. If the watch and the phone are far away, but in the same guest network of the gym, can they still communicate over wifi?
