I have in a light rain, but I would not try to do it all of the time, or in a med to heavy rain that is sure to get the speaker grill wet. The biggest issue with this is that the screen will become unresponsive as it gets wet. Whatever conductive properties the screen uses to read your touch get scrambled when the screen has drops on it. As far as the water sensors in the device I'm more concerned with the moisture I see collected on the screen when I pull it out of my pocket on a hot day, because this happens far more often then trying to text in the rain.
