Can I block a text message

Recently I am getting random texts from advertisers. Have NO idea how they got my number, never had this issue before. I know you can block phone numbers that call you. Is there a way to BLOCK these numbers from TEXTING you?thanks

I use handcent for my texting, and it has a blacklist feature. I don't think it blocks them, but you won't see them. Call your provider maybe?
