Traveling to the US from UK

Hello

I am travelling to the US for 2 weeks from the UK - I really do not want to incur horrendous data charges and was wondering if anyone knows, if the Google Nexus phones are locked to a Network and if I can buy a Pay-as-you-go SIM in the US and put it into my phone? Would that even work with my Google Account? Or is it easy to buy cheap throw-away mobiles in the US that I can use while over there (and only use my phone if I am near a free wi-fi spot)

Cheers
Sabine

I'm from the UK and have used the Nexus 5 while in Vegas last year - all Nexus phones are unlocked so yes you will be able to pick up a sim and have it working relatively easy. Might I suggest something, speak to Three - they have free data roaming for certain Countries, one of them being America. I am with Three and I used my phone abroad several times, without encountering any roaming charges
