can i charge my galaxy6 with a charging pad,been told i cant

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S6 supports both Qi and PowerMatt wireless charging standards. The S6 also supports Samsungs Fast Wireless Charging, but requires special hardware in the charging pad to support this. Personally, I recommend the Cheotech wireless charger. I have two of them, and they work fantastically (and at half the price of Samsung's).
