Can i download and install Android update from PC? My Essential phone will not download updates.

Hey all, I am in a unique situation. I am in China with an Essential Phone. It set up here fine, but I cannot download the android update. I have been trying to download 7.1.1 and failing.

I have tried wifi, 4G data and both with a VPN using multiple locations. Nope. Nada.

When I VPN on my laptop I can connect anywhere and browse anywhere. VPN's are a way of life here due to all the blocks. Most of my phones features are useless in China without a VPN running 24/7 on the phone. Most people here with a good smart phone have VPN's, which is really ticking the Chinese government off.

Is there a way to download the Android update to my laptop and then install to my Essential?

I should mention i am an Android virgin and had been using iphones for 5 years or so.

No matter what i do not want to root my phone and risk bricking it here. I know soooo little about Android. i just want the updates like normal.

I did just that. Unfortunately their only solution was to download the new update from their website and flash my phone. I can't risk that here. Never did it before for 1 and 2, if I brick it I have no way of getting it fixed while overseas.
