Can I find out in advance how much data the downloading of a new WhatsApp version will require?

I am currently staring at a cellphone screen that says 'This version of WhatsApp became out of date on Dec 11, 2019. Tap 'Download' below to get the latest version from the Google Play Store.' My phone is a HiSense.

according to the play store, size will vary by device. do you have space problems on your phone?

1. To Galactic Zoo,

I found 3 files under the heading 'APP INSTALL FILES (APKS)'. Quoting directly from the screen their info is as follows:

WhatsApp.apk 33.25 MB, Mar 22
WhatsApp-1.apk 33.25 MB, Mar 27
WhatsApp-2.apk 33.25 MB, Mar 27

The above is after installing the latest version today (December 12th) as after posting my question (on my desktop PC) it was necessary for me to leave the house. I visited a shop and first bought 500 MB data, because the shop suggested this amount, then they installed Google Play then the latest Whatsapp version. By comparing the data balance before and after the installation, I worked out that the size of the installation was about 37 MB, which approximately agrees with the 33.25 size above. When I returned to the house I saw your answer. Had I seen it before I would only have bought 100 MB but at least now I know.

2. To <me just saying>,

As to whether I have space problems on my phone, the following three quotes from the screen are supplied:-
(i)
Device storage
4.59 GB
Total used of 8.00 GB

(ii)
Internal shared storage
4.59 GB used of 8.00 GB

(iii)
Portable storage
SD card
528 MB used of 1.83 GB

As far as I know, this indicates I don't have space problems.

I moved this from the Android Apps forum to the General Help forum since the former is intended for developers to promote their apps.

then why the question? if you have the space, then you should have no problems. based on your phone and your android version there is really no way to tell you how much will be downloaded.

The download size has nothing to do with the installed size - .apk files are zipped, so they can be anything from 0% compressed to about 70% compressed. Version 2.19.360 looks to be about 26.4MB.

It's just like on Windows (and presumably MacOS -- I have no experience with that). The size of the Windows .EXE installer file is typically much smaller than the actual size of the program after it has finished installing.

Thanks for clarifying that the question was about data plans and the needed quotas for the download.
