Can I fix the screen on my Note 2 that has gone blank?

Blank screen Note 2.

My phone was idle and works perfectly fine. However, when I tried to unlock it, it got stuck. I removed the battery to restart it but I'm getting a blank screen. After a few seconds, the screen shows many colorful dots(like an old TV). How can I fix it and can I have an idea what's probably wrong? It looks like this

Welcome to Android Central! Unless you're really handy, I'd recommend bringing it to a Samsung service center, or some experienced local repair shop. If you want to try yourself, there are a number of do-it-yourself videos on YouTube. But be cautious--there are lots of posts from people who thought they followed all of the directions, then found that other problems arose after the repair.
