Help avoiding/ preventing/ postponing Lollipop upgrade (Verizon)

I've been reading everything about the problems associated with the Verizon upgrade to Android 5.0
I haven't installed the update but I keep getting the "Software update ready to install" pop-up with the option to "Install later" / "Install now"
I don't want to go through the hassle of having to perform a factory reset to resolve the issues the developers caused.

What is the best way avoid/ prevent/ postpone this upgrade? How much time will it buy me?

I'm self employed (sales) and travel a lot, I just can't afford the time not have a functional phone.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

So is this the first of two updates in the Lolliflop update? I apparently inadvertently hit download and downloaded the first of two. It wasn't supposed to ask me anymore so I don't know what happened. I called Verizon. They said there was nothing in the settings that would make the ready to install screen go away for good and she wanted me to know it wasn't Verizon pushing the update, it was Samsuang...I don't know whether to believe her or not (or if it matters). Anyway, after more than a week of hitting the back button to NOT install, it finally GOT me. The precise moment I tapped an app, the install screen came on and I hit install now. That was just the first download to get ready for the Lollipop download. I've again said not to download (the 2nd download) and it said it wouldn't. That was about 3 days ago and so far it hadn't asked me about the download again.

Verizon has a 2 part update for Lollipop. I have downloaded part 1.. It prepares your phone for part 2 which is lollipop. I have not yet downloaded part 2. I am showing 3 options. No thanks.... Install now and install later. I have selected install later which gives you a clock so you can set the time you want to install part 2. If you select no thanks it will force the update on you and a later date. I'm not sure how much time (days or weeks) before the update will be forced on you.

I have this Friday off from work and I will be installing part 2. Not everyone is having issues with the Verizon update. Clearing the cache partition is recommended and so is a factory reset. I'm doing one at a time. Hopefully I won't need to do the factory reset.

I have backed up my phone using Kies. I would suggest doing that also.
