Headphone jack issue
I'm having problems when I attempt to connect my phone to my laptop via 3.5mm audio cable. (I do this to record streaming audio to an MP3 recording app I have on my laptop).
Here's what happens: when I plug the audio cable into the headset jack on my phone, the "Earphones connected" icon shows up in the notification area, just as it does when I plug in earbuds. However, when I attach the other end to the mic input of my laptop, the earphones icon disappears. If I try to play audio, it comes through the phone's speaker, just as if there were nothing plugged into the headset jack. However, if I disconnect the end plugged into the computer, the earphones indicator reappears on the phone.
If I try plugging the audio cable into the laptop first, then connecting to the phone, the earphones indicator will not activate at all - until I disconnect the other end from the laptop. I simply cannot seem to get audio to play from my S3 to my laptop to use my MP3 recorder. I have tried different audio cables, same result. I have an older device (S2) that will record to the laptop with no problem whatsoever. Same with my Acer tablet - no problem connecting to the laptop. Interestingly, I don't have this problem when I connect the S3 to a handheld MP3 recorder - earphones connection stays active just as it should. It's only when I connect to the laptop.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this and what the solution might be?
