Can I install an unlocked version update in the carrier version?

Can i install unlocked version update in carrier version

I ordered unlocked htc one m8(manufacturer refurbished) in ebay but they delivered unlocked at&t carrier version. i am using this mobile from the past 6 months with another carrier sim in india. its working fine but some features like mobile hotspot, blutooth tethering are not working as they require at&t account.
Now i want to install unlocked version lollipop update instead of carrier version update. Is it possible without rooting.

Welcome to Android Central!

You can probably flash a custom ROM that has all those things unlocked. You will need to unlock your bootloader for that though.
