I have unlocked my GN, but not rooted. Can I install Clockwork Recovery? If so, what is the easiest way to do it. Will it mess up getting any OTA?

I now have wallet and tether, so maybe no root needed. I love vanilla!

I researched, but have not come up with a clear answer. Thanks in advance.

You will need root access to install a custom recovery and once your rooted just flash the recovery using the application ROM Manager it's very easy.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe so. It requires Super User and root access to make backups and such.

Roll Tide!

Thanks guys. I was rooted on my D1, but holding off on the GN. Just wanted to make sure.

Mike - I will overlook the Roll Tide. :)

You do NOT need root access to install clockworkmod. As long as you have unlocked via fastboot, you can flash CWM via fastboot. (fastboot flash cwm.img recovery). Once that is done, you are free to flash rooted roms from CWM.

Just get a hold of a CWM recovery image file and you are golden.

You DO NOT need root access in your current firmware to flash a custom recovery. All you have to do is "fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxxxx.img" and you'll have your custom recovery image. So go ahead and flash it, you'll be 110% fine.
