Can i put gapps on my kindle fire without flashing a new rom

Most Google apps will work on a Fire if you install Google services framework apk. Gmail, Reader, Maps, G+, Books, Music all work fine on my unrooted Fire. Currents & Play store will not work.

Yes. You have a couple options. If you have an android device with Play Store access you can download the app to it, back up the apk and sideload it. This is what I do. I've also read about other Fire owners using alternate sources like Getjar and Mobile1to get apps.

I used the Kindle Fire Utility located [Root][TWRP][FFF][CWM]Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.6 (5/09/12) - xda-developers

It was painless. It installed a back up utility that starts before the device boots and added the market. Then there is a market shortcut that I can't find right now but it's on the same forum. My understanding is that the market works but doesn't show up in the apps page or in the favorites. It's hidden. That's why someone made the "shortcut" to it. It's called "marketopener.apk"

This loks complicated but it's not. Simply install the drivers (with the kindle unplugged even though the developer said it doesn't matter) run the utility, let it root the phone, then let it install the google store.
