Can I root my LG G4 vs986 12a?

I'm on Verizon, software version VS986 12A. There is a root method for the VS986 11A version. Can I use the commands and the pre-rooted .img file from the 11A software version.

No, you need to use a bootloader and a system image that is the same version meaning you would need to find a 12a already rooted system.img or you have to root inject your own. In any case, if you're not using 10b which means 11a or 12a, your chances of a bootloader unlock is very slim.
