Can I sim-unlock an AT&T-locked Note 8?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet (i467) that I just bought is apparently locked to AT&T. And it turns out that the previous owner (whom I have no way of contacting) has this device still registered to his/her account, and the device is under contract with AT&T. AT&T refuses to give me the sim-unlock code.

So, my question: is there any way for me to sim-unlock the device? I understand it would void a warranty, but then again I wasn't expecting warranty on a second-hand device bought off eBay. I've heard that some websites offer device unlocking codes for a price - is that an option I can consider for this device still on someone's AT&T contract?

I'll be grateful for any leads and suggestions that people here may have.

Unfortunately there is no way to unlock it...contact the seller and let them know what's going on and ask for your money back. Good luck!

Got it, thanks very much!

Would you know if getting the unlock code from these non-AT&T sources and unlocking the device before the contract is up poses any hazard that I should be aware on in advance?

No.. it should pose zero risk whatsoever. I see the moral reason why srkmagnus said to return it, because technically AT&T still owns the device. It was most likely sold subsidized to the buyer, who then sold it for full retail.

That's not your problem though, and you should be able to unlock it with no risk. AT&T does unlock devices if you're in good standing and you tell them you need to travel overseas and would like to use pre-paid services. They can't force you to use their own international service..

Hi to every one,
I buy a samsung galaxy note 8.0 sgh-i467 but when I verify in about tablet I see "IMEI unknown , IMEISV unknown and BaseBand unknown" and Kies doesn't recognize my device.
I'd like to know if I can fix that and if I can unlock it for using it in my country Haiti?
Thank you very much for your help.

Sincerely, Ross
