Can I still return the evo LTE for an S3?

Hey guys. I got an evo 4G LTE two weeks ago and I am past my 14 day window to return it for a new phone. However, I did buy this from best buy and they have a 30 day return window that I can take advantage of. I know I can't get out of my contract.... but what I really want to do is exchange it for an S3 when they become available. Now if I return it am I going to have to pay full price for the S3 or will still be able to get the upgrade price on the S3. Any ideas?

If your return within their window , you should be able to return for no cost but the $36. Your upgrade should still be good.

Are you positive of that? I don't want to return it and get screwed

I did at 24 days from evo lte release and took five mins to exchange and activate gs3.

Do it!

I plan on doing this, just hope this darn thing is out in stores before my days are up!!

You can only return it for another phone. What I mean is if you are past your 14 days best buy is unable to return you to upgrade eligible status.

I had a launch day EVO LTE and returned on day 30 and got an iPhone for my brother. His upgrade will be used for my s3 once stock shows up in my area.

Out of curiosity, what issues did you have the Evo LTE that made you want to switch?

This question was not directed to me but I am in the same boat so i'll answer. I loved everything about the phone except for multi tasking. It got so bad that I'd be listening to a podcast using Pocket Casts and receive a text using Handcent and Pocket Casts would pause for the text notification sound then close because of HTCs over aggressive tasking setup.

I would consider the EVO again if the s3 doesn't impress me... when stock finally shows up in my area. However, no matter the phone I get I'm going to be throwing CM9 on there.

If you loved everything but the multitasking, and are going to run CM9 anyway (which solves all your multitasking problems), why go through the trouble? CM9 is this >< close to being ready for prime-time on the EVO; a lot of people are using as their daily driver already.

Ultimately it's a personal preference decision between 2 great phones, so I'm going to resist the urge to troll this thread with all the reasons I think the EVO is better ;):p

Honestly, I like the phone a lot.

Things I really like about it:

camera button. I had one on my epic 4g and I really like it on the evo.

kick stand. Never realiezed how convenient this is.

FM Radio. Never had one before and I acutally use it a lot. I will for sure miss this feature.

GPS. My epic 4G's GPS sucks... basically I coudln't use it... EVO locks on in seconds and is very accurate.

Sense. Man I never used it before but it blows touch wiz out of the water. Do you think the new touch wiz offers as many features as sense. I really like how it uploads pictures to facebook and the people widgit. Is the new touch wiz just as good?

Battery life. It is great battery life but I have heard the new S3 is just as good if not better.

Things I don't like:

Multitasking. Its really anoying when ever I go back to a webpage or game and have the page reload or lose all of the progress in my game. It really sucks.

Sense reloading. Seems to be happening more frequently. Whenever I hit the home button it reloads sense and all the widgets which takes 10 seconds or more sometimes... really anoying.

I am sure some of these issues will be fixed by future updates... but I am not sure if thats something I want to risk. Plus the two gigs of ram that the S3 offers is nice.

I am concerned about the GPS on the S3 after my previous experience with the epic. How is it? Does it lock on quickly? I use the nike+ app on my evo LTE and it works awesome. I want it to be accurate or that may be a deal breaker for me.

See I have never rooted a phone... Is it easy? Is it easy to go back to stock? Can I still uses sense if I used CM9?

Root is extremely easy - there's a one-click method available that does everything you need. I highly recommend you check out this thread as a launching point for reading about rooting and ROMing. The one-click root method is the RegawMOD link referred to in that thread. Going back to stock is easy as well.

You will lose Sense with CM9. The CM9 UI is basically stock ICS (play with a GNEX to see what that looks like). But there are a lot of tweaks under the hood and a lot of customization options baked in. There are a lot of replacements in the market for Sense-like widgets if that's your thing.

If you want to keep Sense, there are a lot of Sense-based ROMs that have various UI/performance/battery/memory tweaks. There's a lot to wade through, but the ones that seem to have the most traction are ViperROM and MeanROM.

If you have more questions specifically related to rooting the EVO 4G LTE, feel free to chime in on the EVO forum. There are plenty of threads on multitasking and Sense reloading, as well as one potential method to get around it.

Ultimately you're going to have to decide for yourself what works best for you. If you're that worried about it, and you have the time/funds or know you have a good exchange policy, the best thing would be for you to test-drive the GS3 for a few days to see what you like best. Just remember: software is easy to work around, but you're stuck with hardware until your next upgrade.

I returned my EVO LTE for an S3. I'm anxiously awaiting my S3 to arrive so I can compare and contrast versus the EVO. From what i've read so far, a lot of people haven't regretted the switch. I will have to see for myself.

How many days did you have the evo 4g lte for? More then 14?

I had it for 13 days before I returned it. I was told I only had 14 days from the date of activation to return it. I returned it at a Sprint Corp store so I got my upgrade eligibility back on the same day. At first the Sprint store was giving me hell because they were looking at the pre-order date and told me I was past the 14 day return window. I had to remind them of their policy.

For me it came down to semantics. I was at day 29 of my 30 return, my brother was able to use the exchanged phone , and I had another upgrade ready to go.

My plan is to use the s3 for a few weeks and if it doesn't knock my socks off I'm going back to the EVO. By then CM9 will be ready for prime time and I'll have had the pleasure of using and deciding between two super phones.

Must have missed your post. This is good to know. All I want to do is exchange it for an S3. are you sure that I will be able to get get the discount price ($199) on the S3?

Does anyone have any news or an actual date of when HTC will be fixing the multitasking problem?, I know they mentioned that they would have an update in a different article that was cited on someone's email to HTC
