Can I turn off flip board app to save battery life

On my galaxy s5 note phone

Welcome to AC.

Go to Settings, Apps, All, scroll to the Flipboard app, and select Force Stop. You can do the same with other apps that you don't want to use....or at least, with some of them, and always with due regard to any warnings that appear.

After you force stop, if you don't want to use it again, tap the Disable button. (If it's been updated you have to remove all the updates first, then the button will become a disable button.)
