can I turn off mms on my LG G4 and run sms only

I want to be able to disable mms on my LG G4 and go with only sms. I would prefer to lock it down to sms only as I do not utilize the mms functions and I feel it would be safer in light of recent security issues.

Welcome to AC.

I guess you would have to delete the MMS settings. I'm not sure how you would do that, but have a look in the Messaging settings, or possibly in Mobile Networks settings.

This would need to be tested but I think if you go into Messages, Settings, Multimedia messages, you can have it not automatically retrieve them.

Disabling automatic downloads of MMS works. SMS are not affected and work normally.

Android since v1.0. Linux since 2001.

Something got messed up on my HTC 8X WinPhone and all I get are SMS texts. After a couple calls to tech help, they couldn't figure it out. Missing some texts from my wife this week (because she had multiple recipients, so they were MMS) was the last straw to get rid of the 8X and switch to something else (a G4).

Moral of the story is - make sure you really don't want MMS before you shut it off.

Apparently to send group sms you need MMS. Disabling it is a good way to stop receiving a lot of spam.
