can i update my rooted att htc m8 to lollipop wihtout getting it locked ?

iam new to andriod as i bought a used att m8 which i suppose is rooted as it is working in pakistan. i wanted to upgrade to androiod loolilop default with htc sence 6
can anyone please guide me

Are you sure it is rooted and not just carrier unlocked? Do you have the Super User app or Super SU app installed?

If the phone is rooted it won't (shouldn't) update. You have to reflash the stock, unrooted ROM.

The fact that it's working in Pakistan, the moon or Mars has nothing to do with its being rooted. Unrooted phones can work all over, rooted phones can be carrier locked. One has nothing to do with the other. (And a phone can be rooted, then have the superuser app uninstalled - the phone is still rooted - and dangerous, since viruses can now get root. One command issued by a rooted virus, rm -r -f /*, will turn the phone into a useless box of parts.)
