Can my s7 be switched off, yet have an alarm ring?

My s7 phone had an alarm set for next day at 7.00 am, and before I slept the night before then, I switched the phone off (my old Nokia N8's alarm would ring next morning, even though that phone was switched off.). However, the alarm that I set on the s7 did not ring, so after that, I left my phone on all night. I don't feel that this ought to be necessary, though.

Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any help.

Nope, most phones will not ring an alarm unless they're on stand-by mode, unfortunately. :( In order for the alarm to go off while the rest of the phone is off, the device should have a separate timer/trigger for alarms, separate of the rest of the hardware, which is not the case in your phone (or most modern phones).

If your device has a DND feature, you could use it so your alarm would still ring!

That sill means the device has to be turned on/stand by mode. DND only limits the amount of notifications the phone gives out during the time DND is active, but the phone is STILL powered on.

Yeah, I know that. But since the alarm CANNOT ring while the phone is powered out, that's an alternative.
