Android Central Question

I was sitting at my desk, on my phone. When my call ended I set my phone down next to me on my desk. About 15 minutes later I picked up my phone to use it and there was a huge crack on the screen. I what to know if that's a issue with samsung phones doing this...

From the Galaxy s3, s5,s7,s8,note 4,note 5,note 7, up to now with the note 9 I've never had that happen or heard of it happening to anyone else.

That's very rare to happen, you might of hit it against something and wasn't aware of it.

It's not an issue with Samsung phones specifically but it can happen. It's impossible to prove that it happened by itself though. A lot of times it happens after the glass has been stressed somehow and then it appears later on spontaneously.

Somebody had a similar experience and mentioned it in a post on this forum some months ago.

It's more common in curved screens. The curved part has to be perfectly annealed. If they miss one tiny spot, it will eventually cause a break. Flat screens? No. (And with a curved screen, just gently putting it down on its back could be enough shock to cause the screen to break if the badly-annealed spot was about to go.)

It could be a one in a million type of occurrence due to a very tiny manufacturing defect, problem is how to prove it, first you would have to convince Samsung to take it back for examination and testing.

I would say it's much more likely that the was a defect, either occurring during manufacturing or use that experienced an internal stress. An internal stress is probably most likely to occur due to heating or cooling of the screen or frame where it put stress on the defect.
