Can someone explain how multitasking works (with playing video)

Can someone who has a Galaxy 3 explain how multitasking works, in regards to watching a video and doing other tasks at the same time?

At the bottom right you see the pop out like button. You hit that and then it goes to your home screen-thanks Paul- or whatever it was you loaded the video from and it layers it on top of everything you are doing. Can hit home open Facebook, tapatalk, plume anything but the camera. Opening the camera closes it. But it basically forces it to always be on top and it just plays normally. Only works with native videos that are in your gallery though. Not like YouTube or the like. So got a movie? Don't want to pause to answer a text hit the pop out and go text while watching your movie.
