Can someone explain the eSim?

Hi folks,

Can someone more technical than me explain the practicality of the eSim on Pixel 2?

I am in UK and may be moving abroad next year (not to USA). So I am attracted to the idea of retaining my UK number (for basic connection services) and a local SIM on top. So far the Oneplus 5 with dual-sim makes this possible but does the eSim help on Pixel 2?

The pixel 2 esim is dedicated to project Fi only. If you're not on Fi which is USA only then you would need to use your local sim in the Sim slot.

The pixel 2 is not a dual SIM phone. Sounds like that is what you want, a true dual SIM phone.

As stated the eSim is for Fi only at the moment. Now if you have Fi, like I do, then you can activate Fi using the eSim and then put another SIM into the slot. Right now I have Fi active with the eSIM and an AT&T SIM in the tray. You can't use them both at the same time like you can with a dual SIM phone but you can switch between the 2 in the settings..
