Can someone please tell me if this is water/liquid damage or not?

A friend of mine wanted me to root his Evo for him. After I rooted it, I flashed the Synergy RC1 rom on it. As I was making sure everything was working, I noticed his screen looked a little flakey (see pics). It had like this wisconsin shaped marking on the screen. It's easy to notice on light colored screens. But it's also noticable on dark color screens as well.

I don't know if his screen is going bad or if this is a case of screen tearing or whatever it's called. I never had any of those issues with any of the Evos I ever owned. So therefore, I don't know what to look for.

I talked to him after I found this out and he said he never spilled anything at all on the phone. And he has no clue as to how it could be liquid damage, if that's what it is.

So nevertheless, can someone please take a look at the pics and let me know if this is a case of th screen going ad, screen tearing or something else. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like something was spilled on it. Nothing you would have done would have made the screen look like that unless you spilled something on it.

I told him I think it's water damage. He going to take it to sprint tomorrow to see if they can do anything for him. Otherwise, he's going to contact Asurion

Well the phone still works flawlessly and the water damage indicator hasn't been triggered. I'm just going to leave it off for awhile and see what happens then.

Water damage would be my guess I would take it in for a cln replacement

I put the phone in a baggie filled with rice and tied it up. I checked the phone before I left for work and it appeared to be clearing up. Instead of the entire marking looking like the shape of Wisconsin, The only visible lines now are the bottom. The top part of the water damage is gone. Hopefully by later tonight or tomorrow morning it will be completely gone.

I put the phone in a baggie filled with rice and tied it up. I checked the phone before I left for work and it appeared to be clearing up. Instead of the entire marking looking like the shape of Wisconsin, The only visible lines now are the bottom. The top part of the water damage is gone. Well it wasn't water damage. They said that something must have pressed up against the screen or something. Nevertheless, they replaced his screen and that fixed that issue.

But after we left the store and started our hour drive back home, he tried to make a call and now he can't hear the other person on the line. They're very very low and distorted, like the speaker is blown. this is ridiculous to go in to get one issue fixed and leave with another. Let alone, when you live over an hour away from the store itself.

I think that happened to me when I had my screen replaced. I hate to say it but you'll have to go back, they knew what the problem was with mine and fixed it in less that 5 minutes. Sucks when you live so far away.

Yeah it does sucks. He called Sprint and complained and they gave hime more minutes for the next 3 months in addition to the 1200 or 1500 minutes the plan comes with. If it was me though, I would've tried to get a credit on my bill. One of my cousins got a $119 credit because he was one of the ones that couldnt send or receive text messages. It was also hard to make calls.

So yeah, we'll be going back up to Sprint tomorrow.
