can spy apps on a old phone access messenger or instagram on a new phone if on an hooked to wifi

i got a new phone but my old phone is still able to be hooked to wifi and left on if im not home. Is it possible for them to put a spy app on my old phone and see what im doing on messenger or instagram when im on my new phone.

Welcome to Android Central! As long as you didn't set up the new phone by restoring from a backup of the old phone (which might automatically install that spyware), then you should be ok. Do you have definitive evidence of spyware on the old phone, or are you just worried about the possibility? Also, who's "they"?

Old phone usually don't get anymore security updates to be safe so it will be more easier for malware, hacking etc .. depending on if you go to shady sites and what u download.

Of course, if the old phone is still logged in to your Messenger account (assuming Facebook messenger since you also mention Instagram, but nobody ever specifies beyond 'messenger'), then they would as the old phone would be able to access the information in the account.

"They" can't put any app on your phone remotely but an old phone would certainly have vulnerabilities and you may accidentally install something you shouldn't.

Since messenger and Instagram are accounts that can be accessed from multiple devices, assuming they got into your account from your old phone they would certainly see everything you do regardless of what device you do it from.
