Can the HTC One M8 on the Verizon network running Lollipop be rooted?

I've researched a lot about rooting and am ready to go this route with my phone. The problem is that I have an HTC One M8 on the Verizon network running Android 5.0.1. I've read conflicting information saying that it can be rooted, it can't be rooted et cetera. I have been largely unsuccessful with rooting my phone, and am wondering if this can be done, and if so what is the best way to do it. I have tried multiple one-click rooting methods including Kingo, Kingroot and Oneclickroot without success. I've also tried unlocking bootloader through HTCdev without success, and even tried a few other methods. Can anyone help me?

As far as I know, you can still use Sunshine. It costs $25 but it will root your device and give you S-OFF.

SunShine supports all versions of VZW m8, no kingroot or other tools required.
