Can the "HTC One" record both sides of a conversation?

I had an HTC Desire and this could not, apparently it's a hardware issue. Although it could if you switched to speaker phone as the mic would then pick up the speech from the speaker, but this is not a good solution.
I currently have a SGS3 and it can record both sides of a call and it's so useful for writing up notes.

My main question that I'd really appreciate a quick answer for is, can the HTC One record both sides of a call conversation? If it can, I want to catch the shops before they close!

If the HTC One can also record both sides of a call conversation,
1) what is the hardware that allows it to do this?
2) Does it have to be rooted or S-OFF or anything else?

Thanks
Sam

i am using INCALL RECORDER.. HTC ONE dev edition on t-Mobile doesn't support both ways recording through 'PHONE LINE'.. after call end it comes duration as 00:00:00 and size as 0 bytes..
if you use 'MICROPHONE' settings then the voice from other end is very very feeble.. this is bad, since every other SONY n SAMSUNG phone supports the 'Phone line' setting :(

Just as an aside, be careful what you record. In most states as long as one person knows a call is being recorded it is legal. But in some states it is not. Additionally, if the person you record is in a state that requires both parties to know that the call is being recorded and you record the call without their knowledge then you have committed a crime. That is true even if the state you are calling from only requires one party to the call knowing it is being recorded. Here's a list of States and their laws regarding recording of conversations: State-by-state guide | Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press

Okay, so the HTC One dev edition doesn't really record both sides of the conversation as I'm only interested in good quality using phone line (is that the official term?)
Does anyone have experience with an HTC One that isn't Dev edition?

Thanks

I realize this is an old question, but the fact that I found it while surfing the net should count for something, right?

For those who want to record phone calls on the HTC One or any other Android device, you need not look any further than Google Voice.

I have an HTC One and use Google Voice, among other reasons, to avoid Visual Voicemail charges on my bill while still receiving visual voicemail (albeit very poor visual VM) on my phone.

Of course, another nifty feature of Google Voice is the ability to press "4" whilst in call to record the conversation.

The other person will be made aware they are being recorded when you begin your recording.

Even if you live in what is known as a one-party state (a state where only one person involved in the conversation has to know there is a recording being made), you should always inform the other party if you plan to record. It's the ethical thing to do.
