Can the LED blink for notifications while charging?

If you leave the room and get a text with the phone charging, there's no way to know other than waking up the phone as the LED is always on solid.

Or is there a way to get recurring notification sounds?

From what I gather, that's correct. I don't think the phone supports more than two colors on the LED.

I think the answer to both of your questions is no. At least not natively in Android. There may "Be an app for that".

I think it may have been in the owner's guide that the charge light notification takes priority over all other LED notifications. Hopefully that can be fixed via software if it hasn't already been done via an app.

This is the one area I have a problem with. I've become used to notifications.
I was so glad when the Pre got them thanks to the homebrew guys and I hope there's a solution here. And I hope there's more than the 2 colors.

You are right the page 12 of the guide says "Note: The indicators are listed in order of priority. For example, if your device is connected to a power adapter and is charging the battery, the LED will be solid amber and will not switch to a flashing green light even if there is a pending notification."

So it appears it was designed this way. It's annoying and I hope it can be fixed at some point.

It seems blackberry has cornered the market for best use of led notifications. Wonder if they have some patents or something as other manufacturers phones seem so limited in the use of led notifications.

I'd be more satisfied if this was a bug that could be fixed rather than some ill-considered design choice like whoever decided that the distance to the next turn and ETA readout in Sprint Nav is given in unreadable white text on a yellow background. Did ANYONE actually try driving in a car with the software before sending it to production? I know Sprint's colors are black, white, and yellow, but WTF didn't they just use black so that it was readable?!?!?!

Check out googles navigation app. I think it is better than Sprint's although I hear you about the terrible design.

I have tried it and I like it enough to probably use it more. Thing is that Sprint Nav on my Pre (before it bombed out - long story) had re-routing when traffic snarled and I'm trying to see if it works the same on the EVO, but so far I'm not seeing it. Considering it's v.2.8 compared to Pre's v.2.1, it should be all the Pre's was and more.

Any apps out there as a solution to the LED no-blink while charging? That is seriously annoying. Just change the pace at which it blinks or something to indicate you're still charging.

+1

I wonder if the 4 capacitive buttons can be made to blink for notifications while charging. Although they're so faint that they're not likely to catch your eye. Maybe they can blink in sequence or something.

I don't understand why the more avenues for communication and notifications, the fewer options for actually knowing you've received one. When the only notifications were missed call, voicemail, or the rare text message you had a giant honking multi-color, multi-flashing LED to let you know, plus you would get an audible/vibrate alert continuously until you answered it.

Now, you have eleventy IM services, social networking, background tasks, etc. and we can't even get a flashing LED while charging the phone?

Can't see why it's not possible. It would be pretty cool to be able to control those lights, I would make them blink to music.

You could try FlashNotify. It flashes the screen when you have a missed call or message. You can set it to flash every 5, 10, 30, or 60 seconds.

Of course it's possible. If slow Palm developers can make the Pre's center button blink for notifications, I am sure Android developers can make any button blink on the EVO. Personally, I'd prefer to have the entire bottom row blink as it would attrack more attention to the phone. The LED is too small to be seen from afar. Even better, it would be cool to have some kind of scrolling sequence with those buttons... eh? eh? ;)

The LED notification was built in to WebOS from the beginning. Palm just put some code in that made the option unavailable to users. The homebrew devs just found that code and removed it. Eventually, Palm removed the code and made the option available to everyone.

I would also like to see notificatiuons when the phone is charging.
FlashNotify may be the ticket, thanks!

Edit: Works on my Evo but I wish it had the ability to flash for missed Email as well. Also a custom screen woul dbe cool but I am unsure if that is possible. Better than nothing at all though!!!

Works pretty cool. Some will complain but it is much better than nothing.
