AC Question

I would like to go on the Consumer Cellular network, but would like to use the Samsung Galaxy S5 rather than one of their phones. I have seen comments that there may be problems getting some of the functions of the S5 to work on that network. Has anyone used the S5 successfully on Consumer Cellular?

Another question related to Consumer Cellular using an unlocked ATT S5 phone:

While using Consumer Cellular's network do you get regular updates (ie: Android 5.x) ?

If it's an unloked AT&T S5, I think you have to get your updates from AT&T.

Can you get ATT updates while on the Consumer Cellular network ?
If not, how do you do this with an unlocked ATT phone ?

Thanks

The simple answer is... No!

You need to be registered on the AT&T network to receive updates for the AT&T, G900A, model, unlike normal Samsung phones.

To further complicate things, AT&T do not release their firmware for download and flashing, again, unlike stock Samsung releases.

You would do better to get the Samsung Galaxy S5 model, G900M, which will work on the Consumer Cellular network and has unbranded firmwares, can be rooted and receives regular updates from Samsung directly, no matter what network you are on. The model also works on the AT&T network as well if anyone is thinking of buying one.
