Can you delete system.img and root.img files after root?

Can you delete system.img and root.img after successful rooting. These files are taking up 8gigs of internal memory. Can't update any apps until any these are deleted. From what I understand these are zip type files.
 
Those were files you copied on to the phone that allowed you to root, correct? Yeah, you can remove them to free up space.
