nope. theres no need to remove the back anyway. Thats the reason why the phone is 90% aluminum. The battery is sealed shut inside the phone with lots of strong adhesive glue and perhaps a cable or two connected from it to the mother/circuit board.

what in the shizzles remove the back dude are you thinking of the plastic phones these bad boys are made of aluminum

got bumped into slipped out of my hands (no case) nasty fall on concrete pavement and down some stairs couple dents and lots of scratches, luckily no damage to front or sides

It would be nice to have a sort of rubbery back, no case, to thus stop the device being so bloody slippery...

Well I think it is possible to replace materials inside the HTC One M8 even with this annoying unibody design: If I'm not wrong its the same process as replacing materials from an iPod touch(which also comes with this non-sense unibody design.) Just type in google: "how to replace Backcover of an iPod Touch" and you'll find alot of tutourials...
Gold Luck:)

The iFixit site has a full breakdown of the M8 with great pics. I'd link but I'm only up to post 3.
Basically, it's not so bad to get the back case off. If you want to replace the battery though, you'll have to remove the motherboard. It scored a 2 out of 10 on ease of breakdown (10 being easiest).

One of the easiest things to do is to remove the casing. Anything else and you start to go up drastically in difficulty. But if someone wanted to replace their casing then that wouldn't really be too hard. Harder than replacing the rear cover on a plastic phone, but well under half an hour probably to get it open.
