Can you turn off 4g to 3g

4G or not 4G... AT&T does not have a clear definition. Right now, if you look at AT&T's site you'll see a graphic showing 4G somewhere between HSPA+ and LTE. :) Here's the graphic attached.

You can't turn off 4G and use 3G because in this phone they're essentially the same thing. They would use the same amount of battery anyway. You can turn off data while maintaining a phone connection though. Under settings go to Wireless and Network, then Mobile Networks, uncheck Use packet data.

Yeah I'm not impressed with their "4G" I personally have not noticed a speed increase.

Because the towers are not up yet. Highest I ever got on my iPhone was ~3 Mbps down, sometimes a little more. I got 9 Mbps down today on my Infuse. You have to find the towers that can do HSPA+, they're hit and miss.

I know the speed issue is relative, and I guess I'm not one who needs speed as much as reliability, but in some quick tests the other day (just got the phone), I found web browsing on my laptop (through tether to the infuse) was perfectly acceptable. I have a couple of sites that require constant updates and they both worked very well. So personally, until I start wanting to watch movies streamed to my phone (probably around the time SoCal freezes over) I'm fine with ATT's enhanced 3G.

Just my $.02

There are apps that do this...

try Curvefish 2G-3G OnOff, its free and gives you a widget to toggle it.

I tried curve fish. Doesn't work infuse. It just brings you to a settings menu but no toggle.

Yeah hadn't tried it and got the same results when I did... hmmm...

this thread talks about it a bit, including some codes people claim will do it (but someone there claimed curvefish would as well).

Further down someone claims AT&T disables this ability on their phones and/or network...
