i have a relative who will be going to new york in few weeks, if he buys the nexus 5 from new york and brings it here in toronto, of which country the warranty he will get? US or canadian warranty?

or, is the US and canadian warranty same?

Warranty Covers ORIGINAL Purchaser as long as it is within....
United States (Including Alaska)
Hawaii
Canada

You won't have an issue with warranty. I bought my Nexus 4 from Google play and got it replaced once. Google is very good with there warranty!
