Cannot add additional fingerprints

I'm having an issue and can't seem to find a fix. My fingerprint sensor works okay to open the phone but if I go to add a fingerprint, most of the time it doesn't seem to see my finger. Eventually I'll get an error either that my fingerprint wasn't registered or that my fingerprint sensor is dirty. The fingerprint sensor does not appear dirty, though I've attempted to clean it anyway, and I still get the same error.

Anyone had a similar issue and have ideas for how to fix it?

Are you using a different finger when you are attempting to add a (second) fingerprint? I think you can only use one fingerprint for each saved fingerprint profile. That is, don't try to use the same finger for more than one saved fingerprint profile.

I was using a different fingerprint. What I've found is, for some reason, I have to press quite hard to get it to see my finger -- much harder than I can ever remember pressing to register a fingerprint on any other phone. If I press normally, I get the "Fingerprint sensor is dirty" message; so not sure if this is a fault with the Essential phone design or a fault of my particular phone. Now that it is registered, like the fingerprint I originally registered, I just press normally and it typically works fine.

The other minor issue I have is that the phone doesn't sense my fingerprint while plugged in, unless I press the power button first, to fully wake the screen.

I was having a similar problem with the dirty sensor message. Never thought to press harder. I just thought certain sections of my fingerprint are just to worn down to register properly. I was able to get it in but had to move more down to the area nearer the first joint. I may try redoing and press harder. Thx for the idea.
