When using a Galaxy Tab S7 the Files app crashes when attaching a file to an outgoing Gmail email. The probem occurs in both the Gmail App as well as the web version. The app that crashes is version r_aml_301500700.

Can anyone help me?

Have you tried attaching it directly from the GMail app (selecting the file from the attachment option in GMail and not by using the 'share' option from the Files app)?

Gmail runs what appears to be an internal file manager when you try to attach a file.

@Jeff Green3:

Try FairEmail. (It's a sort-of-clone of Thunderbird, reworked for Android. Very fast response from the developer, if you have a problem with it.)

I have the same problem attaching directly from the Gmail app as well as the web version of Gmail. I have no difficulty sending a file if I share the file using Gmail. The difficulty is that it is difficult to reply to an email with an attached file. The problem seems to be the File app that is native to Gmail.

I see no issues on my tablet. Have you tried clearing Gmail's cache/data? (remember, data will likely reset any custom settings like swipe actions)

I moved this from the Galaxy S7 forum (for the phone) to the Tab S7 forum.

Is the file on Internal Storage or the SD card?

The file is in Internal Storage. I found in a google search that developers at Lenovo had identified the same problem.

Do you also have a Tab S7, or are you using a device from a different manufacturer?

I just tested it on my Pixel 3 XL, and it works fine, so it doesn't seem to be a universal problem with the Gmail app.

I was able to reproduce with One UI v3.1.

I'm wondering if this is related to what is keeping the Gmail app from updating. It seems to be stuck on a version from last summer...

The attach issue is only on my Tab S7. I also have a Galaxy Note 9 and there is no problem.
Try 2 things with the gmail app
1. Reset it , long press the icon then tap into >scroll to storage and clear data and force stop.

2. Uninstall the update to it , dint let play store update it and test .

Reproduced on Galaxy Tab S7, Files app crashes when browsing files from any browser or app.

I had the same issue on my Teclast M40 Tablet: Unable to attach any file to a message in any application (e-mail, WhatsApp, Skype, Facebook, etc...).
"File" application crashed all the time. This is the default app to attach a file, and no way to change this.
Because "File" is a factory pre installed application, I was unable to reinstall it or deactivate it, or stop it. I tried to clear cache & user info, no success.

Finally, I solved it: in the "File" application dedicated to accomplish this task. There is an option is the "File" application to activate "Display notifications" (it was deactivated). Then, miracle ! It works !
Very strange ! Maybe I did deactivate it, causing the problem because at the beggening, it was working fine. Better to take care when deactivating something...

I hope this info can help some of you...

Please let me know if ti worked for you.

This issue is now resolved for me.

I backed up to Samsung Cloud and performed a factory reset on the Tab S7, then restored from the backup. File browse is now working. The only software version difference I see is:

Google Play system update: 1 January 2021 --> 1 September 2020

(didn't get to try the "Notification" fix mentioned above before resetting)
