OK, I hard reset my DX (w/froyo) and now for the life of me cannot figure out how to get rid of the simple swipe lock so that when I wake up my phone it goes straight to the last screen open.

I used to be able to do this just this morning before reset, and all the searches I have done are about the pattern lock etc.

Can someone spell the solution for this out to me like I am some idiot, because I feel like one!

I am also looking for a solution to this, what should be, simple problem.

As of now I've completely disabled all screen locks and bought WidgetLocker which allows me to have a swipe to unlock without a actual password/pattern lock.

If I want to use a pattern or pin lock im screwed with WidgetLocker then Swipe to Unlock and FINALLY Pattern/Pin.

****ing annoying if you ask me, how does something like this go live?

I think you are not going to find an answer to this. Apparently, 2.2 made the swipe lock automatic and not an option.

I had my phone working w/o a swipe lock with 2.2. Now I reset and can't figure out how it was set at disabled.

This should clarify this:
DROID X - Security Lock / Unlock

Copy of post below.

Users that are security conscious can set a "Pattern" lock or a Passcode as a Security lock to secure their handset. There are also a number of applications available on marketplace that can add additional security measures.

* If using Microsoft Exchange / Corporate sync, you will only be able to use Passcode lock. The option to change Security Lock type to Pattern lock will be greyed out.
* Screen lock for DROID X Froyo users (SW version 2.3.15) is a permanent feature. You will not have option to turn "Screen lock" (the simple swipe from left to right when display is dimmed) either OFF or ON your handset.
*
o If your DROID X handset had "Screen lock" turned off and you upgraded your handset to 2.3.15 Froyo update, you will not have the option in settings to turn it back on again because the ability to turn that feature on / off was removed.
o If you want to restore the "Screen lock" option in this scenario, you will need to perform a Factory Data Reset to set the handset to default 2.3.15 behavior. After the reset, you should have your "Screen lock" restored, but correct operation going forward will be that "Screen lock" is a feature that is permanently on.

* If using a Security lock (passcode, pattern, or passcode), you will also need to unlock the Screen lock when the display dims ot the top button is pressed.

You will need your Gmail / Google Account credentials to reset either security lock, so please do not set a security lock on your handset without first setting up a valid Gmail/Google Account you can remember and access.

OK, that IS coherent. Apparently because I had it disabled in 2.1 it updated to 2.2 like that. Now after reset it went to enabled only. Thank you very much for clarifying this! I will have to get the below app.
