Can't add email unless it's Yahoo...

After migrating from the Note 9, my imap email account was not able to access servers. I wound up deleting the account and starting over, but now no matter what I do I'm directed to Yahoo mail.
My email is not a Yahoo account. Any idea on how to escape Yahoo's grasp?

Who's your email provider? Some email providers now require you to use an app password (rather than the one you created) if you add the email account to a 3rd party email client, rather than using the provider's own email app.

AT&T, which I think may now have some relationship with Yahoo somehow. I figured out how to set it up through Gmail, so now have access at least. Not my preference, but access is access.
Thanks for your reply.

The Secure Mail Key looks like a good feature, but the issue I'm having is that Yahoo keeps sending me to their site to either sign in with or create an 'at Yahoo' email...

AT&T email is Yahoo email with an AT&T skin. It has been a while since I encountered the issue you're having. If my memory is correct, I set it up in Outlook using the Secure Mail Key in the password box.

Well I'll be dam*ed, I tried signing in like I've done at least 25-30X since yesterday and it worked!
I did try changing my password before setting it up through Gmail, so maybe, maybe that had something to do with the success.
Now I'm going to remove the account from Gmail and see what if anything happens.

Thanks for help here, it is appreciated!

I tried and tried, so I deleted Yahoo and went with something else that I can freely configure.
