Phone: Stock ROM, Rooted, Verizon, 4.4.4(I think). Me: Clueless. I just installed Xposed and wanted to make a NANdroid backup before I really started making changes, but I cannot boot into recovery using any combination of hardware keys that I've found. I downloaded Simple Reboot and that seems to work, except it takes me to the Android with the exclamation and says "No Command" and no combination of keys will get me out of that (tap power, hold VolDn and tap power, hold both, try with VolUP, try with all three .. I don't think there's a combo I haven't tried).

I saw something online, and now i can't find it, saying it might be a problem with having tried to flash a custom recovery. I don't remember doing that, though it's possible I did a while ago. So at this point I'm tired and confused and am not sure how to proceed. Do i need to flash a new custom recovery? flash stock again? accept that I will never have a proper backup and make sacrifices to the digital gods in hopes that I'll never need one?

Assuming you can still boot into Android, flash this using something like Flashify to get a good custom recovery:

[RECOVERY] [VS985] [F2FS] TWRP 2.8.6.1 touch… | Verizon LG G3 | XDA Forums

And also install this to get an easy way of rebooting into recovery:

Always have a custom recovery to be able to do quick and easy nandroid backups before using anything like Xposed or Amplify. These apps can be very dangerous without nandroid backups.

The correct method of accessing recovery is as follows:

  • Power down your phone
HOLD VOLUME DOWN + POWER until you see the LG logo then quickly release and HOLD until you see the FACTORY RESET prompt

This is the same method you'd use to access both stock and custom recovery.

If you've somehow nerfed your recovery then the best way to restore your device would be to download a stock KDZ file and flash it using the LG Flash tool.

If you decide to take that route you'll need to do the following:

  • Power down your phone and remove USB cable if present
HOLD VOLUME UP and connect USB cable to enable DOWNLOAD MODE
    Open LG Flash Tool
    Select KDZ file to flash
    Click START button
